You know the expression "how the sausage gets made"? Well, "how the cake gets made" is a much more pleasant story and that's the one I'm sharing today. A few weeks ago I got an email from one of my repeat customers. She was turning 30 and was supposed to be celebrating in the South of France but because of COVID (boooo) she was still in St. Pete and ready to drown her sorrows in some cake. She wanted a cake that was inspired by the dreamy French location and sent me a picture for reference. Amazing, right? And to make this assignment even better, she finished with the following: "I'm creatively open to anything (all your cakes are *always*...
For as long as I can remember, I've loved Alice in Wonderland. It started with the Disney movie — the scene with the flowers was always my favorite — and then later on I read the book. The idea of escaping into a magical world is just too fun to pass on so I've always had an affinity for the story. And since turning things I like into desserts is kind of what I do, it was only a matter of time until Alice in Wonderland got the treat-ment (get it?). Ok, that was awful, but I couldn't resist it! Maybe you can take some of these ideas and make your own Alice in Wonderland themed tea party at home!...
August was a super busy month at the Curious Cat Bakery. From pop ups to new flavors, a lot happened and I thought a quick round up in case you missed any of it would be helpful. And since I am a bakery owner after all, I thought doing that while baking made sense. Ready? Here's all that happened in August: Pop Ups August started on a great note after a super successful pop up for Harry Potter's birthday at Book + Bottle. If I ever needed encouragement to fully embrace the dorky part of me who loves a good theme, you guys gave it to me at that event and I don't know if you're ready for what's...
Ok, this might seem weird but I'm just going to say it: watching people decorate cakes is super relaxing to me.
Am I the only one who thinks this? I can't be!
There's just something very soothing about watching someone go through the steps of making something ordinary really pretty.
To illustrate my point, here's an oddly satisfying moment of me decorating a cupcake. I dare you not to be strangely entranced by it!
Stay curious,
Natalia

It was 5:30 am on Sunday morning and I was in the bathroom, sitting on the floor crying. Not my brightest moment, I must admit, but I want to share it with you anyway because I think we can all learn something from it. What Happened That Sunday I was scheduled to have a pop up event at a local coffee shop. People had been preordering their treats all week and they were especially excited about the vegan donuts I had been advertising. It took me years to figure out how to make vegan donuts that tasted just like the real deal and I couldn’t wait to share them with my customers. I made donuts all week long as practice....
